2025 - 2026 Season Recap

Dear Rugby Alum,

The team this year has had many different things happen since the prior year. Some of the main things to highlight is starting to rekindle a good connection between the club and the school in order to get budgeting from the school, building better connections with teams and rivalries, practicing with Battleship Rugby club to get more experience, and so much more. During 1st semester for 15’s season there were many challenges with a great class of seniors graduating the year prior.

Not many games were played through the 15’s season but each one of them built the foundation for the very experienced team we had going into the 2nd semester as well as the upcoming 26-27 season. Going off that, the team as a whole did very well in the 2nd semester for 7’s season and some 15s here and there. We competed in a tournament combining with ULL and LA Tech for a 15s tournament playing teams like the LSU A and B team as well as other club teams in the area. After that we played a 3 game series in 7s against a team combined with Battleship and West Florida Beating them all three games including an amazing down 2 try comeback in game 3. Finally we ended the year with our annual 7s tournament hosting a total of 6 teams like Battleship, Auburn, LA Tech, etc. We won all of our games up until the semi finals placing us third overall once again beating notable teams like Auburn and Battleship.

Going into the year we have around 10 guys (not including freshman) and looking to go a lot further with the help of alums, close relations, and so much more!

With gratitude,

Hagan Resendez

Why I keep coming back

Alumni,

There are so many rugby experiences to name, from playing in the Battleship tournament to getting lost in Baton Rouge the night prior to playing LSU, to kicking the hell out of Alabama then going to the football game, to having to find players in dorm rooms on game day.... the memories are great. Rugby changed my life in many way but mostly because of the friendships made during those years. I value them to this day, almost 50 years removed.

I look forward to hoisting a cold beverage with you in October on the Avenue.

Bullseye

See you on The Hill,

Bill Ward
